When I was growing up, this was my all-time favorite salad in the world. My grandma used to make it for me. Unfortunately she died before I thought to ask for the recipe, but this is what I recreated based on memory.
As part of the reason why I’m writing cozies is because of my mother’s love for the genre (along with her love of cooking and baking) I like to share some favorite family recipes that inspired the Charlie Kingsley Mysteries series. Enjoy!
Twisted Tuna Noodle Salad
1 cup of elbow or shell macaroni
¾ cup cubed cheddar cheese
1 stalk of celery, sliced
½ cup frozen peas, thawed
1/3 cup chopped onion
1 5 oz can tuna fish, drained
¼ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup sour cream
¼ teaspoon of salt
Cook macaroni according to package direction, making sure to rinse with cold water. Combine macaroni, cheese, celery, peas, onion and tuna fish. Stir gently. (You might want to break the tuna fish up with a fork before you add to the rest of the ingredients.)
For the dressing, combine mayonnaise, sour cream and salt. Add to the tuna mixture, gently stirring to coat all ingredients. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
