This recipe was one of my dad's favorites, and it is one of mine as well. Quick and fairly easy to make, these bits of dough in a rich caramel sauce can be eaten warm or cold. At my house we eat them a bit hotter than we should because no one wants to wait for them to cool.
Brown Sugar Dumplings
Sauce:
2 cups water 1 ¼ cup brown sugar
Bring to a boil then simmer.
Dumplings:
1 ¼ cup flour 3 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp sugar ¼ cup shortening
½ cup milk
Mix well. Drop dough into sauce by spoonfuls. Cover and simmer 15 minutes.
Let cool and enjoy!
